You can blame the spur of this project on my desire for summer to hurry up and show itself around these parts. Here's a simple DIY using the left overs of one of summer's favorite treats..
Supplies: Cotton fabric, wool or felt, jewelry chain, and wooden craft sticks/popsicle sticks! I bought my craft sticks mini size but if you have popsicle sticks you can clean them off and cut them in half. This is perfect for taking advantage of household items and also for recycling!
Pantry Supplies: Craft glue, needle + thread, scissors.
First, lay the fabric facedown and begin gluing the sticks to the fabric. I carefully choice the placement of mine so that it would have a pretty pattern in the finished product. After they are dry, cut around them leaving extra trim. Wrap and glue the extra trim, covering the rest of the stick. Then, fold and glue the edges as well, making it completely covered. Once you've covered the desired amount of sticks for your necklace, lay them face down in a pretty pattern. Next, you'll take the wool/felt and cut it according to your pattern. You'll want to make sure it is touching every stick but not showing from the front. Once it's the correct size, glue it in place! Lastly, sew on the chain to the top corners of the wool. Sewing it at the top will prevent it from flipping upside down when you're wearing it. All done!
