This could possibly be my favorite DIY I have ever created. This sweet little bag is the perfect size for a good summer read. Plus, it's extremely simple and requires only hand stitching! Something I'm completely okay with. ;) Take a look at how to create your own..
Supples: two faux leather belts, roughly the same size and color. Place mat, embroidery thread, large button.
Pantry Supplies: needle, scissors.
1. First, attach your belts together, making one large hoop. 2. Next, lay the place mat down with the outside facing up. Lay the belts on top with one buckle in the middle. You'll want the belts to be placed about 1/3 of the way up the place mat. This will make one side longer than the other so that your bag can have a flap. Stitch the belt securely to the place mat with large, messy stitches. 3. After the belt is attached, begin sewing it up both sides of the place mat. This creates the sides of the satchel. 4. Optional* My belt had a small tear in one spot so I took a separate place mat (I had two of the same one) and made a little patch to cover it up. It makes a pretty detail, but it's completely up to the wearer! 5. Next, make a button hole on the front of the flap, slightly smaller than the button. I made X's over and over, creating a a rectangle, then cut a slit in the middle. 6. Lastly, sew the button in place.
Super Cute! I love it!

ReplyDeleteIs it just me or is this tutorial really confusing? Maybe it would be easier to understand if the instructions were next to (or right under) the pictures that match that step??? I don't know, but I'm really confused. It's a cute idea and I would love to try it, if only it made more sense.
