The first time I saw a collar accessory was on our recent trip to Chicago. I thought it was a genius idea, but I wasn't too keen on purchasing a collar for the same amount I could purchase a blouse or sweater, so duh, I made my own:
Supplies: Collared top (mine was thrifted!) + studs. I purchased silver studs at a local craft store and spray painted them gold. You can also find really affordable studs on eBay or Etsy.
Pantry Supplies: Scissors, sewing machine, jewelry pliers.
With the pliers, begin by studding the collar in whatever pattern you choose. Next, cut out the base of the collar. I cut mine three buttons down. You'll want the length to hit mid chest. Lastly, hem the edges of the collar so as not to fray. If you don't have a sewing machine, you can skip the last step if you find a top that's a non fray fabric.
This collar accessory is ideal for tops that are more form fitting. With the collar, you can avoid having too much bulk under your top and more room to move around. I'm definitely going to be using this in the summertime under some short sleeve shirts and tank tops. Yes, I'm dreaming of summer already. Whoops.

This is such a good idea :) I'll be making one of these! x
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! I love the separate collar necklaces that you can get, or make, but this is an even better way to make it fit snugly with your sweater. I'm also a big fan of studs!

What a great idea! I've never thought of the idea of a collar either, but it's so clever, and would be less bulky than a whole shirt. Must try this one!

This is such a great idea! It makes things way less bulky! I don't know if I'm B.A. enough to pull off studs, though. Maybe I'll try lace!
