Tie-Dye Inspired Dress Makeover

If you've spent a decent amount of time on this little ole blog, you know by now that I'm a bargain shopper. Recently while shopping, I found the most lovely, grey cotton maxi skirt with a tie-dye inspired pattern for $100.00. As much as I loved the dress, I wasn't willing to pay that price tag.
Lately I've been all about experimenting with dyeing fabrics, so I knew this dress would be a good guinea pig project.

I purchased a dress similar to this one on eBay in white. I mixed three tbsp of black fabric dye with three cups of water to make a thin, grey dye. To make a splotchy texture, I rolled the dress into a wrinkled ball and soaked the dress in the dye for about five seconds. Because it wasn't in the dye for long, it wasn't able to soak through all the layers, leaving multiple white spots, creating a tie-dye texture.

You can find a similar fabric dyeing project here.
