Josh surprised me with a trip to Chicago to see She & Him this weekend in honor of my birthday last month, and I couldn't be more excited. I've traveled for weddings the past five weekends and as much as I've absolutely loved it, it's nice to get away and travel just for fun. Chicago is the place Josh and I first became friends. We knew of each other for a few years, but had our first real conversations on the Chicago streets. I remember the first conversation we had and exactly where we were standing. To be honest, I had the biggest crush on him from afar since I was 15 years old but was way too shy to admit it. While driving to Chicago last night thinking about how everything has played out over the past years (I'm overly sentimental. Like, reeeaaalllyyy overly sentimental), I told Josh how crazy to think, after that first conversation in Chicago, if only we had known that just seven months later we would be standing in the doorway of his house saying "I love you" for the first time. I still am completely shocked I even went on that trip. The odds of me going were so against me. But I did. And I met a boy. And we fell in love. Chicago, you will always have a sweet place in my heart.
The next few days we will be exploring the city, eating too much food, seeing an amazing show (thanks baby!), reminiscing over past memories, and making new ones.

ReplyDeletesuch a sweet story! chicago is the best :).
ReplyDeleteFirst, your style is always so effortless but gorgeous. It's really enviable! I can't believe you thrifted the majority of this outfit. Serious skills. Secondly, this story was so sweet. I'm always curious to hear people's love stories and how they met and such and I loved this!
ReplyDeleteThat is so sweet and that's wonderful for him to do that! I tend to be super sentimental too, and I try to keep it to myself, but it doesn't always work...oh well!

ReplyDeletehow sweet to hear a little more of your story. i am so happy you were lead, somehow, to going on that trip, despite whatever was against you. and the thought of the two of you having your first real chat on the streets of chicago?! uh…be still my heart. oh wait, too late. it already melted everywhere.
chicago is one of my favorite places ever - since it was my home for 8 years and it was also where i met my husband. so jealous you got to go and also to see she + him! :)
ReplyDeletenothing wrong with being sentimental :) i'm the same way. how can you not be when it's where you met the love of your life? pretty important i'd say! hope you had such an amazing time :)

It's always nice to get away from reality for a weekend or so to take time for yourself and have fun. I just got back from a trip myself and I feel refreshed and rejuvenated as my creative mind started rolling again.
