We were together.
I forgot the rest.
- Walt Whitman
Lately I've had this quote on my mind. As a self proclaimed romanticist, this one pulled on the ole heart strings. But the more I've thought about this quote, the more I've realized that this idea can be a choice. Often it seems that when we think of memories past, we label them as a positive experience or a negative experience. Highlighting the good and ignoring the bad, and vice versa. And that's made me think, I want to live my life that way. Highlighting the good, the experience of it all, the learning, the growing, the love. Not in a naive way, acting as if life is all roses and sunshine. But to choose to remember the positive.
To remind myself, whatever memory it may be, that we were together in it all. And forget the rest.

Fantastic & relevant quote choice. Life is always a mixture of good & bad. Sometimes it all depends on where you put your focus. :] // itsCarmen.com ☼
ReplyDeleteThis is such a great quote. Sometimes we think about things in such complicated ways, especially when it comes to relationships. I know I often overthink everything but this quote shows the importance of living in a moment for the moment. :)
ReplyDeleteBeautifully said! Such a great quote :).

ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I love this. Thanks for sharing the download!
ReplyDeleteThis is such a great quote...honestly, it's good to remember the positive and block out the negative. Life is terribly upsetting when you focus on what you regret and forget about the good times...thanks for posting!

I love this. I'd forgotten about that WW quote, whom I love, but I also love so much what you've said. I feel this way often :)
ReplyDeleteI love this quote so very much. To have someone you actually feel that way about is perfection.
ReplyDeleteThank you for this quote! Two of my closest friends just moved away, and I am going to print it out and mail it to them. :)

mmm this resonates with me. My most recent anniversary was spent in illness. I was unwell and not in the best of conditions and I worried too much that I was ruining our day, that it wasn't going to be romantic enough or beautiful enough. But we were together through it all, and you're right - that's the only thing that matters.
ReplyDeleteVery sweet I love this! It's a nice reminder!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. I'm a firm believer that we should have no regrets in life, because with the "bad" there is always a lesson learned. And that is never a bad thing. Choosing to remember the positive is such a great way to look back on life and make it easy to have zero regrets. Thanks for sharing and the picture is lovely.
